Central Region Mission Update

The following are new ministry opportunities in the central region of the Southeastern District.

Waldorf MD
Grace Lutheran Church in LaPlata, Md. is planting this church using Christcare small groups and strong lay leadership under the guidance of Pastor Eric Peterson. The vision is to have 75 committed adults by the end of 2004. Grace plans to
establish other new congregations in the southern Maryland area using this model.

Leesburg VA
Located in Loudoun County, one of the fastest growing counties in northern Virginia, this new congregation will be established at a 15 acre site on US 15 (2.5 miles south of the town center). The Southeastern District is currently calling a mission planter. It is our intention to begin work in 2004.

West End Richmond

Growing out of a partnership between Trinity, Richmond and the Southeastern District, this new congregation is being established on the far west end of Richmond. The mission planter, Pastor Jim Bloker, began work on October 1, 2003. He is actively involved in building relationships with local congregations and potential members, as well as, developing the vision, mission, and core values for this new congregation.

Chesapeake, VA
The Southeastern District is partnering with Hope, Virginia Beach, which is calling a mission planter to begin work in Chesapeake, VA. in late 2003. Hope's vision is to be a multi-site church, which would also include ministry in the Suffolk,
VA. area.

Resurrection Lutheran Church, Newport News VA
"The mission of Resurrection is to nurture and strengthen God's people so we can share His love with our community." In response to a growing population of families with children, the Southeastern District is assisting Resurrection in calling a full time youth worker.

Chinese Ministry, Falls Church VA
Under the direction of Pastor Philip Du, this new congregation is an outgrowth of the mission of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Chinese worship is held each Sunday and the members are fully involved in the various ministries of St. Pauls. The close partnership of these two congregations has been a blessing to both.

African Immigrant Ministry, Our Savior, Arlington VA
Our Savior, working closely with the African Immigrant Ministry Advisory Board in metro DC, has established a strong Eritrean outreach. Deacon Yimesgen Hailegiorgis is engaged as worship leader and assisting with the many needs of this growing immigrant population.
