Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the Word, to declare the mystery of Christ…” Colossians 4: 2-3a
Tending the Flame is an annual summer outreach conference held in the Richmond area. This two day event features speakers, workshops, a program for children and youth, as well as opportunities to connect and worship with our sisters and brothers of the Southeastern District. More about the Conference
Schools continue to serve a unique role in outreach and faith-sharing within the District. In the past triennium, one early childhood program, four elementary schools, and two high schools were closed. These are lost opportunities to serve in communities through the ministry of Lutheran education. However, outreach through Lutheran education continues to grow. In September 2012 Emmanuel Child Development Center, Hampton VA opened. There are 21 National Lutheran Accredited Schools in the SED and 2 who have been identified as Exemplary Lutheran Schools.
Training Lutherans for Outreach (TLO) is a seminar offered three times a year through webcasting. The focus continues to be sharing the faith – striving to provide both the theological foundations and the practical ways we share the Gospel. Check the calendar for dates.
Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes are natural disasters that change lives and impact ministry. These events compel congregations to respond with compassion and mercy as agents of the Gospel. At these times SED partnerships with VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster), Lutheran Disaster Response, and LCMS World Relief and Human Care help to provide important resources. This SED website has resources to help congregations prepare a disaster plan and response. A District Disaster Response Team is available to assist congregations in their plan.
